Dodo

Dec 2020 – linoprint by julia Cuyler

My friend David passed away and I did not know it. I found out recently that he had crossed over three years ago. He loved dodos. Then, as synchronicity would have it, I saw a documentary about dodos in the same week I discovered the news of my friend.

I made this after I saw a documentary on the Dodo(s). I always thought I would emphasize the beak as the stand out feature of the dodo. But, as it turns out, the truly significant element is the bottom. Nevertheless, the pronounced beak and the tiny wings are remarkable, as well.

Now, my first dodo complete, I found it really expressing a singular personality. I hope to meet another dodo along the art path. I wonder what it will be like?

I might have to carve it again. I think it’s looking the wrong way. The again, maybe not. It’s interesting being a self- taught beginner. Hmmm…would wearing a blindfold to get around the house for an or so would give insight into the experience.

Even when I really want to, I don’t always make the time to have even a single creative experiment that I feel like sharing. It feels like I haven’t been creative at all.

I had a great day with my kid. And that means a lot. I took some selfies of us. We played a little.

Luckily, I have some fun projects to share from the past. Enjoy this little cutie linocut from this past holiday season. I’m loving the dollar store shadow box style frames.

Oh my goodness! I am so excited. My first post! I have been day dreaming about getting a blog going for a very long time.

I have so much I want to share. So many categories! So many ideas!

For now, my goal is to post every day and share some of what I’m up to. At first, I may use only photos. But, I plan to drop in videos, as well.
